Wildlife Gallery

Gallery List

There has been a growing interest in my Australian and international bird series and this new gallery will help followers of my work to find these subjects more easily when deciding on an artwork to purchase. It looks like Fine Artist for some of my clients actually means Wildlife Artist! We have so many beautiful animals and birds to draw and paint in Australia, so painting wildlife portraits, for want of another phrase is an enjoyable divergence from my other regular topics.

There are several artists working in Australia and overseas who have also inspired me to take on wildlife painting and I own them a big thank you. It has proven to be very enjoyable and a new challenge to paint Australian wildlife in particular.

These works, along with other wildlife artworks, are mostly in pastels although some are also in oils. I have recently ventured more into the realm of pastel for seascapes and birds and found that I am improving at a great rate, which I hope shows in these pieces.

Pastels allow you to "move" your colour around, add many layers, can be erased if needed and are very forgiving if you are not able to dedicate large blocks of time to one work, allowing you to revisit a project over several sessions.

Pastels also archive very well. Collectors therefor can be comfortable in purchasing a pastel artwork, the colours hold better over time than many paintings and pastels done over one hundred years ago look as good today as they did on completion. For clients purchasing artworks from overseas, pastel paintings transport better and are not so expensive to courier from Australia to the UK, USA and Europe.

Smaller pastel artworks start from $AU220 unframed plus delivery. Paypal, EFTPOS, VISA and Mastercard are accepted. For more details go to my Contact Page and make an enquiry.

Please note the red dot next to the artwork images in this gallery indicate that the artwork is sold or not available from the artist.

Blue Wren IFor Sale

Blue Wren I

Pastel on pastel paper of one of the blue wrens that are native to Australia. The colours of wrens in Australia vary from state to state and we are lucky to have an abundance of beautiful native birds to draw and paint.

Blue Wren IIFor Sale

Blue Wren II

Pastel on pastel paper of one of the blue wrens that are native to Western Australia. The colours of wrens in Australia vary from state to state and are all beautiful but this little guy who I have the center piece of the set just stole my heart. The little splash of red and his lively stance are very enticing and I could not resist his charm.

Blue Wren IIIFor Sale

Blue Wren III

Pastel on pastel paper of one of the blue wrens that are native to Victoria, Australia. The colours of wrens in Australia vary from state to state and are all beautiful. This little bird was going to be the second of the set of three, but was beaten out by the Western Australian Red winged Blue Wren. He is now the third in the set.

First Outing

Pastel on pastel paper is derived from photographs taken our home gardens on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia. The lorikeet was just learning how to fly and was still not afraid of people. My husband was able to pick him up and give him a perch in one of our flowering shrubs and he happily posed for the camera! A lot of little details have been deleted and the colours have been modified to suite. The background has been simplified so that your attention is only on the lorikeet.

Hello! Hello!For Sale

Hello! Hello!

Pastel portrait on paper of red parrots in an aviarie at a local stud. An upcoming monthly demonstration at one of the guilds I attend is on the subject of birds in pencil. The closet thing that I have in stock and that I work in, let alone having enough colours to do justice to the beautiful little parrots we have in Australia, are my pastel pencils. So, pastel pencil it is!

How Much Can A Koala Bare

Pastel on pastel paper derived from a photograph I was kindly allowed to use from a Facebook page about our lovely Australian wildlife. The original photo had a lot going on in the background and the foreground was covered in pebbles. These all looked attractive but I very much wanted to concentrate on the face of this beautiful animal. He really does seem to be smiling at you!

Pastel on pastel paper taken from photography by Janice Mills during the 2011-2012 Australian summer from series of photographs in Janice's collection based around her home on the Mornington Peninsula. Many of the details have been simplified and some photos have been merged together to create a more interesting image. The path in this artwork is from a photograph taken at McClelland Galleries near Frankston. The trees are from the road near Janice's studio. The birds in all three artworks in this series were later additions. These lorikeets do live in the area but were not in the original photos.

Little Lorikeetssold

Little Lorikeets

Pastel on crimson pastel paper of two native birds to Australia. The Crimson Lorikeet is a nectar loving bird that feeds amongst flowering gums and also enjoys grass seeds and can be tempted to visit by leaving out wild bird seed in the garden. This is my first attempt to draw these birds.

Love You Too

Pastel on dark red coloured pastel paper of two native birds to Australia. The Rainbow Lorikeet is a nectar loving bird that feeds amongst flowering gums and also enjoys grass seeds and can be tempted to visit by leaving out wild bird seed in the garden. These two birds are snuggled together enjoying the warmth of the sunshine on their backs. If you check closely you will see that the one on the right has it's eyes closed having a nap.

Magpie Wattle PointFor Sale

Magpie Wattle Point

Magpies are great birds. I know many people don't like them for their habits of swooping, (something that I have never experienced) but I was taught to warble to them as a child by my mother and they have been my friends ever since.

Mo, Larry and Curleysold

Mo, Larry and Curley

Pastel on mustard coloured pastel paper of three baby native birds to Australia. The Rainbow Lorikeet is a nectar loving bird that feeds amongst flowering gums and also enjoys grass seeds and can be tempted to visit by leaving out wild bird seed in the garden. These three little birds are not ready to fly yet and are snuggled together waiting for their mum to return and feed them.

Owl

This is my latest pastel painting. I am happy that it at least looks like a barn owl and I also enjoyed doing something different as this is a subject that I have never done before. The artwork was inspired by a request for a commission a client. The subject was so interesting though, I just had to give it a go with or without commission. Hopefully a sale will happen in the near future as the subject has come out so well.

Roo!For Sale

Roo!

On an all too brief holiday in Wattle Point (Victoria, Australia), the wildlife literally came to us. The great thing about living in Australia is the abundance of accessible wildlife that we can interact with. Holiday resorts that encourage the correct and safe way of spending time with these beautiful animals are one of my favourite ways of spending a vacation.

Rosellasold

Rosella

Pastel on crimson pastel paper of a native bird to Australia. The rosella is a nectar loving bird that along with the rainbow lorakeet loves to hang precariously from very slim branches in our flowering gums in order to feed on the flowers that are out at this time of year. This is my first attempt to draw one.
