Water colour painting of a scene in Venice, Italy. The original photograph was taken by a very good artist from whom I have had several lessons by the name of Glenn Hoyle. Glenn does a lot of beautiful paintings of scenes throughout Italy. His way of getting the light on the ripple in water are just magic! |
It is because of his great skill at not only water colour, but also animals such as horse and his great eye for perspective that I did another workshop with in in January 2011. |
When I first saw the original that we were to work from my first thought was "I can't do that". Glenn is so good at getting the washes just right that I could only see myself coming up a poor copy in comparison. Glenn, however is a very encouraging teacher and took us through the process step by step and took away my fear. |
The result is that I have produced some of the best water colour washes I have ever done in this work. I got some very nice comments form not only Glenn but also other artists attending on the day and must admit that I am pretty happy with the way this work has come out. |

City and urban scenes, like still life and portraits are all subjects the really did scare me off in years past, but it is because of wonderful teachers who have shown me how to get past these fears and the methods, how to break down a scene into layers of colour and light and shade - and most of all not to be intimidated by any subject or medium, that I am able to produce works like this one. |
